How we verify giveaways

A giveaway has to pass three checks before we list it. If it stops passing them, we take it down.

The three checks

1. The entry page works

We open the entry page and confirm that it loads and accepts an entry. A giveaway whose page is broken, redirects somewhere unrelated, or has closed does not get listed.

2. The prize is stated

The sponsor has to say what the prize is. "A chance to win great prizes" is not a prize. We list the value the sponsor gives for it, and we do not round it up.

3. The sponsor is named

Someone has to be responsible for drawing a winner and delivering the prize. If the entry page does not say who is running the giveaway, we do not list it.

What we remove

We take down giveaways that have ended, and any listing where the entry page has stopped working or the terms have changed from what we described.

What we never do

  • We never charge you to enter, and we do not list giveaways that do.
  • We never submit an entry for you. We fill in the form; you review it and send it.
  • We never ask for a card number, a bank account, or a Social Security number. No real giveaway needs them to enter.

What we cannot promise

We check the giveaway, not the outcome. We do not run the drawings, we cannot tell you your odds, and we do not know who wins. The sponsor's official rules govern each giveaway, so read them before you enter.

Winning something can also carry tax obligations. The sponsor will tell you if that applies to a prize.

Tell us if we got one wrong

If a listing does not match what you found on the entry page, write to [email protected]. We read every message.
